Love & Money: Coping With Covid Restrictions

The coronavirus pandemic may be putting a strain on your relationship, both  emotionally and financially. It’s a challenging time to be a couple, regardless of your living situation. Let us help you navigate this uncharted territory with some tips to keep your relationship steady!

Let’s Talk About: Coping With Covid Restrictions

If you’re trapped at home with your significant other, you’re likely craving some alone time. But it’s no easier for those in long distance relationships who can’t see their partners at all. No matter how you slice it, it’s a tough time for any couple.

Along with this, there’s the emotional strain that comes from fear of the virus. Whether you’re in a new relationship, or you’re seasoned pros, it can be hard to face new fears together.

Additionally, there’s the financial component. With millions of people losing their jobs, and the general economic uncertainty, relationships are being put to the test.

Plan, Budget, Repeat

With many financial worries coming to fruition, it’s important to be open with your partner. Make a plan, or better yet make a few. One for the best case scenario, one for a worst case, and one for the most likely outcome. It’s always better to be over prepared than underprepared.

Once you’ve created some varying plans, talk about what they will look moving forward, and try to craft a realistic budget. Use your current incomes and account for all of your expenses. If you don’t already have one, now is the time to make an emergency fund.

As things change, revisit your plans and budget. Maybe things weren’t quite as bad as you expected, and you can loosen up. Maybe things were a little worse and you need to reevaluate your financial plan entirely. Either way, you’ll be thankful that you discussed the ‘what ifs’.

Date Night In

Whether you’re home together and in need of social interaction, or self-isolating miles apart, there’s tons of free resources for virtual dates. Hop on your favourite platform (p.s. check out our platform comparison), and have a romantic night.

Call up some friends and have a virtual double date or dinner party. This is a quick and easy way to spice up your quarantine routine! If you’re long distance, or even in the same city but isolating, set up a romantic background and have a call just the two of you.

Regardless of where you are, try and do something special for your partner. Even the little things, like flowers from the garden or a home cooked meal, will help ease the strain. And, give each other some space. It’s hard to be cooped up with one person, no matter how much you love them.
