In a recent SolarWinds IT Pro Day 2019: Building Confidence for Tech Pros of Tomorrow survey, SecurityBrief Asia has reported that tech professionals are feeling the impact of the skills gap.

The survey supports IT Professionals Day, which is observed on the third Tuesday of every September (17 September 2019), and emphasise appreciation for IT professionals, the critical role they play in end users’ lives, and in operating successful, modern businesses.

According to the survey, 60% of global technology professionals have not actively pursued a new skill or completed a certification in the last six months; with nearly 50% of tech professionals who did start a certification process did not complete it due to lack of time to commit.

Other Key Findings:

  • 46% cited interpersonal communications skills as most critical for their continued career growth; followed by project management (56%), and public speaking/presentation (52%).
  • 54% cited full-day in-person workshops as providing the most value for the time spent when it comes to IT skills training materials.
  • 31% of organisations using automation to address this gap point to business investment in new ways to help their staff develop skills.
  • Meanwhile, top two requirements for tech professionals to become confident managing current and future environments included increased budget/additional resources (64%), and more support from IT or business leadership (48%).
